Toyota Financial Services Reaffirms Its On-Going Commitment to Addressing Nationwide High School Dropout Rates with a $500,000 Donation to 35 Boys & Girls Clubs

Toyota Financial Services (TFS) pledges $500,000 to 35 Boys & Girls Clubs as part of its on-going commitment to addressing the national high school dropout rate. Boys & Girls Clubs encourage high school graduation and college readiness by helping youth develop the academic, behavioral and social skills needed to be successful. According to a recent survey conducted at local Clubs, 97% of Club teens expect to graduate from high school, and 28% of Club Alumni said they would have dropped out without the Club’s influence.

Denise Aranda, a 12th grader at Carson High School in Carson, California, experienced the traumatic loss of both of her parents at a young age. In 11th grade, she joined the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson in search of a positive environment with caring adults to provide her with the support she needed. After joining the Club, things improved in her life. Now a senior, Denise is looking forward to graduating high school and a great future.

“After all the deaths in my family, I felt like there was nothing to live for,” said Denise. “Because of the great people, friends, and family the Boys & Girls Clubs have provided, I stand here today grateful and hopeful for the future.”

“Making a difference in just one member’s life is critical to the success of our youth and our nation’s future,” said Mike Groff, President and CEO of TFS and National Trustee for the Boys & Girls Club of America (BGCA). “Toyota is committed to combating the national dropout crisis by supporting BGCA’s academic success programs, and also focused on making a difference at a local level with over 200 TFS volunteers serving as mentors at local Boys & Girls Clubs.”

In collaboration with The Darden Restaurants, Inc. Foundation Toyota currently supports the academic success of thousands of Boys & Girls Clubs teens through a college-readiness program called Diplomas to Degrees (d2D). The additional $500K donation will help Clubs supplement their current programs, offer support for Club operations, and increase their capacity to serve more youth.

The 35 Boys & Girls Clubs will benefit from the donation, which is an increase from last year’s donation with the addition of 19 new Clubs.

For additional information about TFS’ involvement with BGCA, interviews with Club Executives and members, or on-site tours and/or interviews at one of the supported clubs, please contact Lauren Martin, at laurenm@imre.com or 213-289-9190.

Worldwide Sales of Toyota Hybrids Top 6 Million Units

Toyota Motor Corporation announces that cumulative global sales of its hybrid vehicles topped the 6 million unit mark as of December 31, 2013, reaching 6.072 million units1. The latest million-unit milestone was achieved in the fastest time yet for Toyota, taking just nine months.

Helping mitigate the environmental effects of vehicles is a priority at Toyota. Based on its belief that environment-friendly vehicles can only truly have a positive impact if they are widely used, Toyota has endeavored to encourage the mass-market adoption of hybrid vehicles.

As of this month, Toyota sells 24 hybrid passenger car models and one plug-in hybrid model in approximately 80 countries and regions around the world. Furthermore, within the next two years, Toyota will launch a total of 15 new hybrid vehicles worldwide, including the new “Harrier Hybrid” in Japan on January 15 and the new “Highlander Hybrid” in the United States in the near future. Toyota will continue augmenting its product lineup even further and increasing the number of countries and regions where it sells hybrid vehicles.

Toyota calculates that as of December 31, 2013, Toyota hybrid vehicles2 have resulted in approximately 41 million fewer tons3 of CO2 emissions—believed to be a cause of global warming—than would have been emitted by gasoline-powered vehicles of similar size and driving performance. Toyota also estimates that its hybrid vehicles have saved approximately 15 million kiloliters of gasoline compared to the amount used by gasoline-powered vehicles of similar size.

In August 1997 in Japan, Toyota launched the “Coaster Hybrid EV” and launched the “Prius”—the world’s first mass-produced hybrid passenger vehicle—in December. Since then, Toyota hybrid vehicles have received tremendous support from consumers around the world.

Toyota has positioned hybrid technologies that enable the use of different fuel combinations, including the component technologies necessary for development of various environment-friendly cars, as core environmental technologies for the twenty-first century. Toyota therefore plans to continue working to raise performance, reduce costs, and expand its product lineup—including that of non-hybrid environment-friendly vehicles—to create vehicles that are popular with consumers.

Toyota nears 10 million car annual output

Toyota nears 10 million car annual output

NAGOYA – Toyota Motor Corp. will probably become the first automaker in the world to build 10 million vehicles in a single year, its global data through November indicate.

Toyota’s global production increased 0.9 percent from the same period last year to 9,337,668 vehicles, including output by affiliates Daihatsu Motor Co. and Hino Motors Ltd., buoyed by brisk demand in China, Europe and the U.S.

In November alone, Toyota’s global production increased 13.3 percent to 889,242 vehicles, marking the third straight month of double-digit growth.

With demand expected to be high in Japan in December ahead of the consumption tax increase in April, Toyota’s full-year production is expected to hit the 10 million mark.

If production this month turns out only to be close to last year, the annual total would come to roughly 9,993,000 vehicles.

In sales worldwide, Toyota moved 9,093,000 vehicles in the first 11 months.

Toyota announced in August it was targeting 10.12 million vehicles made and 9.96 million sold for the year.

The company will not raise its production and sales targets significantly since it incurred massive losses following the global financial crisis triggered by the Lehman Brothers collapse. in September 2008.

Volkswagen AG, meanwhile, is gunning to take over No. 1 spot. In 2012, the German automaker saw its global sales grow 11.2 percent from the previous year to 9.07 million vehicles.

Production rises again

JIJI

The combined domestic output of Japan’s top eight automakers rose 10.5 percent in November from the previous year to 800,567 units, according to data compiled by the automakers.

The third consecutive month of expansion can be credited to new hybrid and minivehicle models and growing demand ahead of the consumption tax hike in April, analysts said.

Their overseas production remained robust as well, rising 16.4 percent to 1,493,465 units.

Toyota Motor Corp., Nissan Motor Co., Honda Motor Co. and Daihatsu Motor Co. saw record overseas production.

In Japan, the eight companies’ total sales jumped 15.5 percent to 418,945 units.

All but Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. enjoyed year-on-year growth in domestic sales. The maker of Subaru vehicles was hit by a product shortage in the domestic market as demand was excessively strong in North America.

As for the tax hike, a Daihatsu official said many customers wanted to know whether vehicles can be delivered by March if they sign contracts now.

The automakers’ exports rose 9.1 percent to 386,657 units thanks to recovery in the U.S.

Fuji Heavy enjoyed an all-time high in monthly exports, while Mazda Motor Corp. posted an export rise for the 12th consecutive month.
